It's Real!
Yesterday when I posted the link on Facebook about my first egg from the teen-agers, I said I was hearing Aretha Franklin singing, "At Last" in my head. I was hearing Aretha even more loudly when I got home from erranding yesterday evening!
We are officially an official business.
The lawyer has sent us the certificate that we are an LLC.
The probate office and I had a discussion about what we are doing and we now have a business license for our county. This license allows us to sell craft goods: knit baby blankets, hand-woven wraps, and other miscellany. We plan to add a license from the city in the near future to allow us to sell at the big Farmer's Market in our area.
We have a Grower's Permit, allowing us to sell eggs from our quail, and anything we grow ourselves in our garden.
We have a Game Bird Breeder's permit from the state allowing us to sell live or processed birds.
We continue to participate in the NPIP program, which certifies our birds are healthy and free of infection.
We have successfully completed the class on food safety required by the Cottage Industry law, allowing us to make and sell jams, jellies, and pretty much anything that does not have to be pressure canned. We are allowed to ship these for sale anywhere in the state of Alabama.
We have the health department stamp of approval on our labels (another necessary step in the jams and jellies realm).
We are working on rebuilding our flock and hope to have chicks or adults ready to sell by the first of the year (if you are desperately in need of birds please contact us; we may be able to work something out if you are local).
We have a limited number of quail eggs available for sale. These are for eating at this point but we plan to add fertile hatching eggs by the first of the year.
There are a limited amount of pepper jellies; mild (jalapeno), moderate (scotch bonnet), and flaming (ghost pepper). If demand is there, I can crank up and make more as the pepper plants are still producing here.
There is also some strawberry jam available.
I have a some shawls available, mostly 5-foot. These can be made to order in 5, 6, or 7 foot lengths.
I have some knit baby blankets on hand, mostly small sized. These are cotton or acrylic; I tend to stay away from wool baby blankets although I will make one to order.I am working on a new project of pin loom baby blankets. These are made by weaving squares on my 10 inch pin loom then joining them together to form a blanket. Since I have not had time to work on this, these will be available by the end of the year IF my experiment is successful.
I will be posting pictures of specific things as time goes on, both here and on Facebook. Until then, feel free to contact me if you are looking for something specific and would like to see a price sheet.
It's been quite a challenge to get to this point. I am well aware the work will be different from here but just as...worky...as this (hopefully not as daunting as dealing with government offices!), but being at this point after the dreaming, hoping, planning, wondering, and working for as long as we have is amazing and wonderful and satisfying.
For those of you who have been encouraging and supporting us through this process, those of you who have been so very kind on social media (Like and Follow!), and those who have provided guidance, wisdom, insight (and coffee!), as we have worked through the steps;
THANK YOU!!!
You have made this exciting and have kept us going when it has been challenging.
