Don't Count Your....
Remember when I wrote about not counting your chickens quail before they hatch? I forgot.
I am not quite sure what happened. We worked hard on calibrating the Brinsea. The temperature and humidity were not just vaguely on target but in the bullseye. We had a decent hatch in this with the eggs we purchased from Myshire Farms, so I do not think the problem is with the incubator.
This leaves the fertility of the quail as the most likely culprit. It should not be a problem as they are only 5 months old and we had a successful hatch from them in October, but here we are.
So we wait. It's been 16 1/2 days and there is a possibility we will see some activity but the odds decrease quickly as the hours pass. Normally by this point we have at the very least some egg shell debris on the floor of the incubator, if not a lone first-hatch baby (I always tell the first hatch it is their responsibility to make so much noise all the rest hatch just so they can find out what the heck is going on out there).
We will be rearranging the quail living quarters tomorrow and if we have no activity by then in the incubator we will introduce some new males into our breeder groups.
Farming is a gamble!
I'm going to go curl up with Pippin for some snuggles now.
Oh geez I’m sorry!!! Praying for hatching!!!🙏🏻
