Getting Ready for Another Week at the Market

This week at the Coastal Alabama Farmer's and Fishermens Market everyone is celebrating the Coastal Garden Festival.

There will be a lot going on this week, from free trees to all who want them, to the local high school color guard, to the announcement of the winner of the Garden Festival Poster Contest, and vendors celebrating the imminent arrival of Spring.  (Really.  I promise.  It's coming).

We had hoped to have some plant starts available; however, we discovered that in order to do that we would need a nursery growers permit and a nursery retailer permit from the state.  The cost for these is not exorbitant but we came to the conclusion we have enough going on this year without trying to jump through those hoops as well.  We will have produce available before too much longer.

Our quail have been very, very generous this week.  We are currently collecting around 40 eggs each day and we are not starting an incubator this week so we will have over 20 dozen available for sale this week.

Because the Garden Festival celebration is this week, I have been having fun painting some small terra cotta pots and these will be available for sale as well.  These are fun little items for small plants (they are appropriately sealed), for a pencil holder, or just as a decorative little catch-all for the desk.  I made a lot of these years ago but have not done any since we moved here so it was fun to rediscover this craft.

We will have English muffins again this week (I promise to remember the salt!).  Over the next few weeks in between other responsibilities, I will be playing with some gluten free flour products to see if I can make an acceptable gluten free version of these.

Over the past week I have made two Mardi Gras shawls and over the past week both of them have sold!  I will be working on more Mardi Gras shawls over the next couple of weeks.  If you are interested in a special-order piece I am happy to discuss this with you, especially as ball season is cranking up.

I do have a new light-weight Easter-themed shawl available this week made out of Israeli cotton.  It is a lovely soft piece with a remarkable color gradient dyed into the yarn.

Stop by to say hello; we are looking forward to seeing you!
