What a Weekend!

Good morning friends!  I hope you are all safe and sound after a crazy weather weekend.  We had a busy one in the Now and the Here.

On Friday we had to go to Mobile ~ another trip through the Bankhead Tunnel (if you are local you understand).

It's a perfect can-opener for trucks over 12 feet

After that trip we went to Fairhope, Alabama for their annual Arts and Crafts Festival.

Oh what a Festival!  Downtown Fairhope shuts down and there are blocks and blocks and blocks of vendors of all kinds.  Our new friend from the Ballyhoo FestivalRoyal Miree was there along with artists of all kinds.  As we were walking the main street I noticed a woman spinning fiber.  Of course I had to stop and ask if she were local because I have wanted to learn to spin since I was quite young.

Tammy Meissner is not local but she told me about some of the Fiber Festivals and the classes they offer (going to the Fiber Festival in Asheville, NC and taking classes there is on my bucket list).  We chatted a bit more and then I left to go find Cletus.  That evening in between getting ready for market the next day I found her website and left a comment thanking her for her time.  She messaged me back and invited me to come sit with her Sunday and she would teach me some spinning basics!  To say I was excited is an understatement!

Saturday was a blustery day at the market.  We did not try to take Marie or put out any shawls or blankets.

Cletus calls her Marie because her nobby little head keeps falling off

We could not keep the sign up even with the wiper anchoring it.

We met a lot of new people, sold out of English Muffins, sold most of the 30 dozen quail eggs we took, had a lot of questions from people who are interested in buying eggs to incubate and/or chicks, and shared some bookmarks with some young folks who like to read (I love to encourage young readers).

Best of all, we saw a beautiful sunrise, compliments of my favorite Artist.

We did get some storms Saturday evening/night, but thankfully no tornadoes.  Our thoughts and prayers are with those who did experience the tragedies of the storms.

Sunday I set off back to Fairhope.  What an amazing time to sit with Tammy and learn from her!  I am hooked and once I get caught up with everything around here (I will get caught up, right?  Right????), I will be looking for a spinning wheel (let me know if you have one you want to sell) and get started.  It will be a process and take quite a bit of patience with myself as I learn, but Wow!

Concentrate, Virginia!

Tammy's husband, Michael, is an extraordinary painter.  His dolphins leaping out of the water are beautiful, and his boats make me wonder about their history.

It was a busy but great weekend.  We ended it with babies hatching, but that's for another day.
