Gardening in April

While last week's posts were the stories of our latest endeavors with quail, do not think the garden has been neglected!

Cletus has been busy with starting seed in seed trays, transplanting what has reached the proper maturity, and dealing with the effects of the rain.  Oh the rain!  So far this is not a year we will need to use the sprinklers.

We had another 6 inches in 36 hours over the weekend (thankfully not on market day!) and we had another creek stream river running through the back garden (and a bit of a pond in the front).

Once again we got out with hoes and dug channels to try and divert the water away from the garden.  This time we also called the county DOT and talked to them about putting a ditch along the roadway out front to keep this from happening.  They promised to come out and evaluate the situation.

This much water on the ground took a few days to dry up.  What does one DO with oneself when it is too wet to work outdoors??  Well, one of us sat at her desk and did paperwork.  The other ~ that would be the one who does most of the heavy work of building, moving, tilling, planting, repairing, and a few other odds and ends ~ that one gets some very much needed rest (when he wasn't helping me do line-item work to get taxes filed).

Things have dried up now and the garden is thriving.

The shadow is gone by 11 am, giving this section plenty of light

Coming attractions; Seminole Pumpkins!

SQUASH!!!

The grass is also thriving.  Unfortunately a weld on the lawn tractor broke last week so the grass is just going to have to keep on thriving until the lawn tractor comes home!

Poor tiller looks so lonely in there by himself

It won't be long now until we have produce available at the market.  Tomatoes, green beans, squash, cucumbers...we do not have it all, but we have a lot!
