Getting Ready for Market
It's been a busy few days over here at NowHere. We have been thinking, talking, rethinking, and planning how to make our presence at the market better and more helpful for our customers. We have planned our late summer and fall produce/harvest. We have discussed what can be baked in our kitchen over the next months. We have talked about craft goods we might offer.
Cletus has been busy with a second planting of beans. As we were planning, I mentioned to him how much I had enjoyed the way we had beans when we lived in Pell City. He had built a trellis covering the very long sidewalk from the driveway to the front door and we walked through a tunnel of different varieties of beans to get to the house.
| It was quite popular with some of our neighbors! |
He got busy and built something similar out in our current garden and I LOVE how it turned out!
They are blossoming and starting to set beans, and should be ready in another week or two.
He has also been working on a second planting of tomatoes, including Creole tomatoes, a new variety for us. These should be ready by the end of this month at the latest if all goes well.
The seminoles are thriving and growing like...well...like seminoles (if you know, you know!).
We will be harvesting these soon and will have them at the market for you.
We also chose a couple other varieties to have at the market in the fall. One of these will be a paintable pumpkin which should be a lot of fun for you to have.
Along with the current English Muffins and Ciabatta rolls, we intend to add pumpkin bread and cookies, cinnamon rolls, and some other seasonal breads.
You may have noticed an increase in posts on here with different quail egg recipes. The most frequent question we are asked at the market is, "what in the world does one do with quail eggs??". My response has usually been, "anything you do with a chicken egg I can do with a quail egg" but I have realized this question is asking for more specific answers. So we are trying out new recipes and including these on here. We will also be having printed copies of these recipes available at the market each week and some samples of something we have highlighted. Who knows? Maybe come winter we will even have some of that "killer eggnog" for you to try!
Our local farmer's market is a wonderful place. We loved it as customers, and we love it as business owners. We have a lot of fun each Saturday. We have made some great friends here. The behind-the-scenes work our market manager and our fellow vendors put into this is invaluable.
Every Saturday morning before the market opens, all the vendors who are able and desire to, gather in the middle of the building. We form a large circle, hold hands, and pray. We pray for any special needs among the vendors and vendor families, and we pray for you.
That's the kind of market we have.
We thoroughly enjoy the opportunity and privilege of having a space at this market and we still enjoy walking around and being customers as well. Come see us!
That is beautiful WOW!!!
